referred to as
Paul began
his motor sport career in 1995, winning the Rookie of the Year award in the Queensland
Gemini Series. In 1996 he won the Championship Outright.
In 1998 Paul
competed in the Queensland Rally Championship in an older Datsun 260Z achieving
a top five outright finish. Paul’s exciting, consistent driving caused a major
upset, since the competitors in high tech, 4WD turbo-charged cars, should not
have been beaten by an older car such as the Datsun 260Z. Later that year,
Paul's ability was recognized by the Rolin Motorsport team and he was selected
to drive their Subaru WRX in the Round Australia Rally. In this challenging eve
2000 was a
very successful year for Paul and showed how adaptable and reliable a driver he
is. Paul competed with the 3..2..1..GO! Rallying team
in a Commodore ute, winning the Aussie Car Class outright at his first event
and with his competitive and consistent driving Paul went on to become the 2000
Aussie Car Class/P4 Class Australian Rally Champion Driver.
Most recently
in 2003 Paul was invited to compete with Wei Long racing in the final round of
the Chinese National Championship – with little time to adapt to a left hand
drive Subaru WRX in a new country and not having competed for 2 seasons, Paul
finished an incredible 2nd outright, winning the final three stages
to close within 9 seconds of a debut win – only just being beaten by the
current Chinese National Champion.
Paul is
also more than just a driver, being regularly involved in driver training,
corporate events, community work with youth and speaking engagements between
events thanks to his marketable personality and the profile developed through
motorsport. This further provides opportunity to promote the team and its
sponsors.
